So I have 2 blogs, this one (obviously) and a book review site. I am part of a community project where we read and review books. I am aiming for 52 this year, I tried last year but I came a bit short so I am giving it another go this year. I am right on target this year at the halfway point and pretty pleased about that. I am very much enjoying reading, reviewing is a little trickier (it is hard to come up with ways to say that you liked or hated something and why). I think that I am getting better as I go along though.
Here is a snippet of my latest review, check out the full review here.
Alright so I have now finished book 8 in the Southern Vampire Mystery series by Charlaine Harris. My last review has all the links to the reviews that I have written for the other books in the series if you are interested. All Together Dead was trying my patience with these books, and as youthfulzombie pointed out in the comments of that review, the TV series is better than the books. That is mostly true, overall I believe that the show is better, but there are certain parts that I prefer in the books, mostly parts of dialogue and certain story lines in the show (hotshot for one) that are so much different on the show and not necessarily better.

Farewell to Beer
Something scary has been happening to me lately. I have seen the scale creeping back up there and I think I know why. Let's be brutally honest, I know exactly why. I am not blaming one thing for everything but it is a lot of little things that have come together to make my success fall away.
I have had a couple falls, I had one in May off my bike, then I have fallen a couple times this past week on my rollerblades. I haven't been going to the gym because my hip has been hurting, but it is mostly an excuse and I am making myself accountable for it now. I can still go and work out, even if it is not at the level I was doing before, I can still make the effort. I need to be doing my weight training most of all and also I need my cardio. Also when I work out I am more likely to make good choices when eating.

Protein Power - Almonds
A while back I mentioned that I was planning a series of posts on different types of vegetarian proteins. I have been slacking on getting them done since I am having computer issues but I decided to get started today on one of my favorite proteins, almonds.

Seawall Adventure
One of my friends had a great idea to bike the Stanley Park seawall so my son and I came along as well. There was a free music festival there also which was pretty fun, but it was very hot so we mostly stuck to the bikes. Here are a few pictures of the day.
Started out at my friend's place in North Vancouver, what a view! Stanley Park is behind my right shoulder.

Stairs
Just wanted to make a quick note to follow up on my goals that I set to lose my last 10 lbs before my goal. I do still plan to blog more, but my computer at home is not working properly so that has made it challenging.
Anyhoo, I got out and did some stair training to prepare for my first outing on the Grouse Grind trail, which I plan to do for the first of 5 times on July 16. I think that I am ready for going up the trail, but I am pretty thankful that I get to take a gondola down since I am SO SORE today! I did the stairs for a solid hour on Saturday and I can still barely walk. I can still go up stairs just fine, but down is torture. I went and did the "1001 steps" trail in Surrey (there are really only about 300 or so though) and I plan to go back out there and train some more. It is a good place to go, and not too far from home. It is also very pretty, see a few pics below.
